Michelle Obama Just Graced The Grammys With Her Presence And I'm Screaming
The former First Lady opened the show alongside Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Jennifer Lopez.
2019 Grammy Awards host Alicia Keys shocked viewers on Sunday night when she opened the show alongside Lady Gaga, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, and Michelle Obama. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.
After the ladies strutted on stage to an appropriate symphony of applause, Keys set the tone for the evening.
"Music is what we all love, music is what it’s all about," she said. "Everybody is out here shining and I’m so proud to bring us together to honor this moment because music is what we cry to, it’s what we march to, it’s what we rock to, it’s what we make love to. It’s our shared global language."
"They said I was weird," Gaga followed up. "That my look, my choices, my sound, it wouldn't work. But music told me not to listen to them. Music took my ears, took my hands, my voice, and my soul and it lead me to all of you and to my little monsters who I love so much."
After Gaga, J Lo said, "Back in the Bronx, music gave me a reason to dance... and it kept me moving from the block to the stage to the even bigger screens... music has always been the one place we can all feel truly free."
"Every voice we hear deserves to be honored and respected," Pinkett Smith added.
A short time later, Obama echoed all of their words like only she could.
"From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the "Who Run the World" song that fueled me through this last decade," she said, "music has always helped me tell my story, and I know that’s true for everybody here."
"Whether we like country or rap or rock," the former First Lady went on, "music helps us share ourselves, our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear one another to invite each other in. Music shows us that all of it matters — every story within every voice, every note within every song, is that right ladies?"
Fans were understandably awe-struck by the group.
