Celebrity Stylist Lysa Cooper Gets Real About Beyoncé and Rihanna

(Getty Images)Vogue Italia has a fascinating new interview with celebrity stylist Lysa Cooper, who is wholly responsible for some of the most iconic looks of the past decade or so thanks to her innovative work with the entertainment industry's heavy hitters. Cooper is perhaps best known for her association with Beyoncé, although she did work for a time with Bey's supposed rival Rihanna — and from reading her interview, it's immediately obvious which superstar she prefers.

The entire interview is fascinating, but it gets downright juicy when Cooper opens up about her work with Rihanna. She notes that "boundaries got blurred" with the singer and her management, adding, "Also, I’m a lot older than her. I don’t entourage it up. I don’t like to hang out like that. And when I do hang out, I hang out hard and I think that can be very intimidating to people who aren’t use to the old way of partying."

Asked to elaborate, Cooper clarified, "Go out dancing all night long. You’re not Instagraming every f**king moment. You’re not smoking wack-ass weed with some bad blunts. Sorry. I smoke weed, but I smoke good weed. I feel like everybody is a little lost in the sauce right now."

"Lost in the sauce" sounds particularly brutal compared to Cooper's description of Beyoncé: "She has to be one of the nicest people on the planet. She is a joy to be around. She is kind ... I mean, she’s really from Texas. It is not a joke. And it is so authentic and so sweet. She’s had the same stylist since day one. They are intimately close. I work with her a lot, because we’re so close (her stylist and I), that he’ll hire me for things that he’s not available to do. I love them. She is lovely. And she’s one of those people that remembers everything. Things that there would be no reason for her to remember. She’s aware of the people around her, in a good way."

But it's not like Beyoncé is perfect: "Everybody needs to stop with the hair, including Beyoncé."

It's pretty clear that Cooper's issues with Rihanna are not entirely personal, but related to her management's handling of her public persona. "I won’t give presentations anymore. I won’t do mood boards or any of that. I learned my lesson the hard way. Because they take your idea and hire another stylist. They can’t have you come to set, because it’s your idea. If you do, then everyone will know it’s not theirs."
